How to close a church

The congregation of St. Philip in Moncton embraces the past and looks to the future

St. Philip’s in Moncton is now a cherished memory. The congregation held its last service April 27, with Archbishop David Edwards in attendance for the deconsecration.

In a nod to the past, the offertory hymn was one that was sung at the first St. Philip service almost 70 years ago. The original choir had 34 voices and three of them attended the final service.

Study bibles needed

Several inmates at Dorchester Penitentiary have requested study Bibles (bibles with commentary) for their own use. The resources available through the chapel library are limited.

Chaplain John Paul Westin is requesting that anyone who may have a study Bible that is not being used or perhaps one you would be willing to donate for the use of incarcerated believers, to contact him to arrange how he can collect them for delivery to interested inmates. Thanks in advance!

Put your skills and gifts to work

AST Board of Governors

The Diocesan Synod of Fredericton is looking for a person interested in joining the Board of Governors of the Atlantic School of Theology.

The Board is responsible for the governance of the university, including financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and overall strategic direction. The board is particularly looking for fundraising and/or engineering/architecture/construction experience, although that is not an essential requirement.

The Board meets in a hybrid fashion five times a year as a full Board, and Governors are also expected to sit on at least one Board Committee – Finance, Audit, Governance, Strategic Plan, AST/Saint Mary’s University, Advancement, and the Executive – and there are occasional, shorter-term opportunities to volunteer for work as well.

Governors are appointed for a three-year term and serve for a maximum of two terms; Governors begin and end their terms at the university’s AGM (in mid-June).

If you believe you are qualified, willing, and called to represent the Diocesan Synod of Fredericton and to bring your gifts to the work of Atlantic School of Theology, please email these details to the nomination Committee nominations@anglican.nb.ca before May 21.

Camp Medley 80th Anniversary Celebration

Camp Medley 80th Anniversary Celebration

When you turn 80 years old, there ought to be a big celebration. That’s what’s planned for Camp Medley, the diocesan camp which opened in 1945 as a place for kids to get out of the cities and back to fresh air and nature. Everyone is invited, especially those with a link to the camp.

The day begins at 10:30, and will include a worship service, live music, memorabilia, food, tours and more. Accommodations will be available for those needing or wanting to stay the night.

If readers have any memorabilia from camp — crafts, photos, t-shirts — they’d like to show off, they’re asked to contact John (director@campmedley.ca). As well, if readers have stories from camp they’d like to share, please send them to this address:  friends@campmedley.ca.
