The right to seek safety was made for you and me. 75 years ago, after the Second World War, the world made a promise: people forced to flee have the right to seek safety and protection. It was never meant for a few. It was meant for all of us.
No one is safe until the most vulnerable among us are. When people are forced to flee their homes, we all have a role to play. Ensuring protection for refugees strengthens communities, promotes stability, and saves lives.
This World Refugee Day, help keep the promise of safety alive. Stand with refugees. Until everyone is safe, we show up. Until everyone is safe, the work is not done.
The Alongside Hope Refugee Network has prepared Refugee Sunday information and resources to lift up the current state of refugees globally and the importance of refugee sponsorship in Canada.
In addition, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank is holding a webinar on Wednesday, June 17th, 8:00 pm (Atlantic) to explore the connections between forced migration and food security, what makes a resilient food system, and how we can support people forced to flee their homes around the world through learning, giving, prayer, and advocacy.
Together, we will explore the following:
Learn about Forced to Flee, an experiential learning resource that builds understanding of the circumstances and consequences of millions facing forced displacement.
Deepen understanding of the causes of forced migration and how Foodgrains Bank members and supporters are making a difference around the world.
Be equipped to take action through ongoing learning, prayer, giving, and advocacy.
