Lunch Connection says thanks, good-bye

Lunch Connection says thanks, good-bye

A crowd of volunteers and school representatives gathered June 3 with Bonnie Hunt to celebrate the memories made and work accomplished at Inner City Youth Ministry’s Lunch Connection program.

Bonnie is the executive director of ICYM. The group met at St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Church in Saint John, the site of ICYM’s new home.

Lunch Connection, a program to feed elementary school children at noontime, will come to an end as the school year draws to a close. The province has decided to run its own lunch program starting this fall.

June 20 is World Refugee Day, a time to bear witness to people forced to flee their homes, and a time to ask ourselves how we are to respond.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is holding a 60-minute webinar on June 17 to give time for folks to respond with actions and prayers.

In this webinar, we will explore the connections between forced migration and food security, what makes a resilient food system, and how we can support people forced to flee their homes around the world through learning, giving, prayer, and advocacy.

Kings Landing summer services

Kings Landing summer services

The summer services at Kings Landing Historical Settlement have begun, taking place this year at the Superior School near the main entrance.

Evening Prayer services will be held at the school each Sunday at 2 p.m. during June and July because of infrastructure upgrades that have closed the other side of the village, including St. Mark’s Chapel of Ease.

Construction is supposed to be complete by August, so services will return to St. Mark's and go until Thanksgiving weekend.

Please join us for the annual Rogation service on June 21 at 2 p.m.

Visitors and officiating clergy should come in the main entrance. As always, there is no admission fee to attend the service. Any questions should be sent to Canon Walter Williams at goodolpadre@hotmail.ca.

For those wanting to lead a service, consult the sign-up sheet here.

Directions: take Route 2 (Trans-Canada Highway) to exit 253 and follow the signs. Alternatively, for a scenic drive, take Route 102 along the beautiful St. John River and follow the signs. Kings Landing is about 20 minutes up river from Fredericton.
